Meet Mr. WaltersMichael Walters grew up in Glendora, California on the Double HH Ranch, an orange grove owned by his parents. He began working in his family’s business when he was 11, became an Eagle Scout and graduated from Glendora High School.

After graduating from Glendora High School, Michael went to Cal Poly-Pomona where he graduated in 1968 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration, with honors. In 1969 Michael was accepted to California Western School of Law in San Diego, California. He received a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1971, and was admitted to practice law by the Supreme Court of California in 1972.

Michael began his practice in Poway California in 1972 with the firm of Scrim & Walters located on Poway Road. On the retirement of his partner, Robert Scrim, in 1979 he founded the firm of Walters & Ward, A.P.C.

Michael is widely recognized as one of the premier wills and trusts specialists in the San Diego area. He has been seen on The Leeza Gibbons show twice, acted as a commentator for the NBC Television News in San Diego, hosted his own radio show, Law Talk with R. Michael Walters on KSDO 1130 AM and has written many articles in legal and other publications. He also has an ongoing editorial column “On The Line” for The Sun of Rancho Bernardo, and Diamond Gateway.

Mr. Walters has been a leader in civic, religious and fraternal organizations throughout his career. He is a past president of Rancho Bernardo Kiwanis, past president of The Western Mobile Home Park Owner’s Association, Trustee of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego, past Chancellor of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, Member of the Rancho Bernardo Chamber of Commerce, past Counsel for the Poway Jaycees, a 32° Mason (Scottish Right). He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of many other charitable and civic associations and clubs.

For many years Michael has acted as a Judge Pro-Tem of the Superior Court of California for the County of San Diego, as well as a California State Bar Ethics Judge and Fee Arbitrator for both the California State Bar and  San Diego County Bar. Michael has taught continuing education classes for lawyers on estate planning and other matters.

Michael has been recognized as an outstanding speaker, having addressed many local and statewide associations in his 30-plus years in practice. He gives three or more Wills & Trusts Workshops each month. Michael has worked with over 22,000 clients, the majority of which have been in the area of wills and trusts. Few, if any attorneys in the San Diego area can match his experience and expertise in this area.
